Below I was sent this e-mail letter which helps explain our position in this matter.

As someone else has commented, the last thing manufacturers want is a warehouse full of unsold "smart" appliances. So expect to see a lot of advertising and promotions to sell these items, but they won't tell you about the radiation. They have, for example, a "cash for appliances" program (similar to cash for clunkers) which will encourage consumers to get rid of their old appliances and "do the right thing" and purchase "smart" appliances.
It could become quite difficult, if they are successful, to find safe non radiation emitting appliances. We consumers, though actually have the power of our pocketbooks We can also start a letter writing campaign to the manufacturers and stores which sell or plan to sell them.
I have more links and lots more brands. I was going to ask the group if anyone has knowledge that the appliances are "stealth" emitters. After visiting lots of promos and industry sites, it appears that these companies are proud of the new designs. They tell people to use the “touch screen’s” on the appliances to price the energy expenditure, or program the preheat time, or the wash cycle, etc. They are sold as interactive. Just want to let people know.... I've had a smart meter for over a month now.

I am still cancer free. My cats have not grown an extra toe... and, more seriously, it hasn't affected my WIFI or 3G reception. (not that I expected it to)

I did get a shock on my bill HOWEVER it was because when they switched the meter they revoked my previous bill (november-january), credited my account, and then reissued a new bill with november-january+the days up to the point the old meter was removed... so it looked much bigger than normal. I expect the next bill to be smaller than normal simply because it will be for less days.

The new meter started at 0. Which in a geeky kind of way, was cool.

There have been a lot of people who have gotten sick from smart meters. I will send video tapes showing you how many people who have had headaches, get sick and throw up etc. I also have seen plants and bushes below and around the smart meters dying after they were installed.
