New Business Proposal
What is your opinion about the following type of business opening in the Alberni Valley?
Pacific Substrate Ltd. may consider setting up a site in the Alberni Valley. Where do you think would be a good location? Keep in mind that a strong odour is attached to the production of mushroom substrate.

All their production plants seem to be in desert and semi-desert areas. Can't imagine why they would want to set up a mushroom soil plant in the rain forest.
Where did you learn of this?

Re: New Business Proposal
I know the person that built the company and also one of the major shareholders. The formula for the substrate is a secret. Their product is known all over North America as one of the best for growing mushrooms. They're looking at shipping to deliver their product to other parts of the world. I don't think it matters that this location is wet.

I though it needed to rain in the fall for mushrooms to form?
I supposed they could make the substrate anywhere.

Commericial mushrooms are raised in barns with climate control.
I just wondered about drying substrate for transportation. It weighs a lot less and takes up less space when dry. In a desert or semi-desert climate you wouldn't be paying for drying, it comes with the territory.
But this company supplies substrate to commercial growers and seems to be doing quite well, so I'm sure they know what they're doing. I just wondered.
As for whether we would want such an operation here, I wonder how long before our Anti-Trucking Non-progress Society would be all over THAT. If the substrate manufacture doesn't kill us, laws a mercy we're all going die from diesel cancer . . . (but not from logging trucks, dey's speshul.)

Pacific Substrate makes the product that the mushrooms grown in. It contains chicken manure and other things that break down and cause serious odour.
Who owns the property on the flat stretch past Island Pacific Logging's Cameron Shop?
I am trying to feel out the attitude about a substrate processing plant locating here. I also need to figure out things like what way the winds generally blow.

Most of the time the wind blows up the inlet and out Beaver Creek so anything odoriferous would not be noticed as these places already get plenty of odor from whatever the hell that smell is that our city engineer can't locate.

Best place for it would be somewhere West/North of the mouth of the Somass.
That or somewhere on the other side of the ridge on the south side of town, like Cameron shop.

Isn't Cameron Shop due south of town on the way to Bamfield and China Creek?

Which is why I said over the ridge... I doubt very much that any smell would travel that far and get over the ridge.
Could also be at the link-mill site a little further down the road, and more secluded still.
Who knows, might be wrong. But the stench from the City lagoons hardly went 2km (the dike was about it) and it was BAD.
And Cameron Shops is south west of town, not due south. It's also potentially in the lee of the mountains.

IMO it should be in Possum's back yard, all he does is continue to spread shitty lies around and, mushrooms need plenty of shit.
